Olive cake pellets
Olive cake with an approximately 12% moisture content is suitable for pelletizing. It can be pelletized without any further treatment, no adhesive is added.They are used in order to decrease the dust formation during the loading, unloading and handling of olive cake
For several years starting from 2001 olive cake and olive cake pellets were widely used in coal fired power plants in Belgium, UK and later in Poland for co-firing with coal. Usually about 4-7% of olive biomass was admixed to coal, as a bigger amount of olive cake could have been dangerous for the coal boiler because of its high potassium content and alkali media. But in biomass dedicated power plants olive cake and olive pellets may be successfully used as a single fuel or in combination with other biomass products.
